Dia de los muertos or Day of the dead was origanally started as an attempt by spanish preists in order to mix the native tradicion with catholisisim to placate the church back in spain and say that the natives were participating in catholic hollidays, the beliefs behind Dia de los muertos are that the dead come back to earth to eat, celebrate, and visit their family. Dia de los muertos is celebrated in mexico on the first and second of november. People in mexico celebrate the holiday by making an alter concisting of candles and incence to call the dead back from the dead, pictures and things they enjoy, and pan de muerto (bread of death), foods they enjoyed the most, and thing to clean them such as razors for the trip back to the land of the dead.
